Hi Strictly Come Dancing, love your show!

However, as a very enthusiastic dancer of salsa I have a few concerns about your portrayal of it… These can be listed as the following concerns.

1. Can you please tell Tess Daly that the word salsa does not have an ‘O’ in it! the ‘sal’ is pronounced the same as the one in salad.

2. When talking about salsa it is not necessary to proceed ‘salsa’ with ‘the’. ie. “This week I am dancing the salsa” is incorrect. “This week I’m dancing salsa” is correct!

3. I understand that you want to choose popular music for the couples to dance to, but can it at least have the correct rhythm to fit with salsa steps. It is no wonder that the couples struggle to dance salsa that looks any good when they are dancing to music that is quite frankly undanceable!

4. Though salsa is a dance that originates in the streets, and is great for partying to, it isn’t enough to just say it is a party dance, and anything is ok as long as the dancers look like they are partying! This point is especially aimed at Len! (though we fully respect Len’s knowledge of ballroom and ‘ballroom latin’ dance styles’

With these simple changes I feel like salsa could be well represented in your wonderful show!

  1. This petition is frankly so unnecessary. So what if someone says ‘this week I am dancing the salsa’, it’s really not hurting anyone, and anyone intelligent enough will figure our for him/herself what the sentence means. Also, it may simply be a case of the writers wanting to add some kind of excitement to the phrase… bottom line is that it’s really not that big a deal!! Same argument applies for points 3 and 4.

As for point 1… just email BBC if it’s bothering you so much and you feel that it’s so bad that it’s destroying the word Salsa? Is a petition really necessary? Or is the writer of this petition just merely trying to show how clever he/she is by doing this. Petitions like this
make a mockery of the concept of a petition.

  2. Hate! Far too cringeworthy! Find it very annoying that people will think that is all there is to salsa and that anything goes! As for that bloody awful track – it was completely wrong. NO ONE could possible salsa to that! Why don’t the professionals who obviously don’t have a clue about salsa take proper advice???????????

Love or hate? Have your say!
