Passing of a Dear Friend and Colleague – Armoul Stoute

There has been some awful news in the Leeds salsa scene this weekend… The sudden and unexpected passing of Armoul Stoute is a shock to everyone that knew him, and my condolences go out to his family at this time. There has been an outpouring of grief, and also of happy remembrance, which reminds us all that salsa is more than just a passtime… It is a community of people that care for one another!

Passing of a Dear Friend and Colleague

I am really sorry to tell everyone the very sad news that we have lost our dear friend Armoul Stoute yesterday, Sunday 19th January 2014, after a short illness. I have had the privilege to say good bye before he passed. I’m going to miss him. We knew each other for so long he was like a brother to me.

Many of you will know Stoute through salsa, indeed many of you will have started your salsa experience on a Tuesday night with Stoute as your salsa teacher in the beginner’s class. He was well known and very well loved and respected in the salsa community.

It was a difficult decision to make but after speaking to his family, we have decided to dedicate Tuesday night’s salsa classes at Baracoa Luxe Bar, Leeds to our friend. (Tuesday 21st January). It would not feel right not to acknowledge Stoute in this way.

We will be donating some money to a charity chosen by Stoute’s wife in lieu of flowers, cards etc. The charity is yet to be chosen but it will be one close to Stoute and his family’s heart. If you would like to donate you can do so at salsa on Tuesday night. I will let you know as soon as possible what charity his wife has chosen.

It was also thought that as Stoute touched so many people, that we would create a Memory Book / Book of Condolences for his family. I will bring this with me on Tuesday night at Baracoa. We would really appreciate it if you could write down memory of Stoute or a poem or anything that you like in the book.

We have also been asked to collect photos of Stoute to be included in the Memory Book. If you would like to contribute your favourite photo(s), either bring a printed photo with you on Tuesday or better still send it to me on Facebook ;or by email before lunchtime tomorrow. I will print them and stick them into the memory book ready for Tuesday night.

We truly feel that a light has gone out in the salsa world. Please pass this message on to anyone you think would want to be involved,

Thank you

Julien and Kirstin
